A very active start to the 2007 season
The Lake Geneva lakefront real estate market is off to a very active start with 9 sales closed through the middle of May of this year. According to Multiple Listing Service statistics there are 4 lakefront homes with pending accepted offers and 20 active listings ranging in price from $1,195,000 to $5,300,000 at the present time. There have also been 4 vacant lakefront lot sales so far in 2007 with 2 currently under contract. I have 4 of the listings on the market at this time and have been involved in 5 of the sales so far this year. In my 29 years of experience in the Lake Geneva real estate market, this has to be one of the busiest times I can ever remember with regard to the lakefront activity. It continues to surprise me how much of the media is talking negatively about the real estate in other areas of the country and how things can be so much more positive here. I believe the difference is that we are fortunate to be about 2 hours from Chicago and the suburbs where they are a number of potential Buyers who have the financial means and the desire to have a get-away place and want to keep the drive to 2 hours or less. Many do not want to have to drive south from Chicago and face the bottle neck of traffic going around to Michigan so we are just the logical more convenient choice. The old days of driving 4 to 6 hours to northern Wisconsin is just not a viable alternative for the busy families of today. Many of the other lakes in the area such as Delavan Lake, Lauderdale Lake, Whitewater Lake and Twin Lakes are also experiencing a higher level of lakefront activity so far this year and many at considerably more affordable price levels.
