Two Walworth County WI towns Look towards Bringing the Zoning and Land Use decisions to the Town Level
Linn and Bloomfield Wisconsin may try to revise county zoning codes to give authority to the town rather than the county in final land use decisions
The Wisconsin townships of Linn and Bloomfield are
scheduling to meet in September to debate the possibility of being released
from Walworth County zoning authority. The
current state of things has the two towns without final say in zoning and land
use matters; under zoning codes, the town officials are allowed to make recommendations
to county officials, but county officials are those that decide the matter.
But making revisions to the county zoning codes is not
unheard of, as the Lake Geneva Regional news cited that approximately 50 changes
were made to these codes since the zoning laws were first adopted. If this ‘revision’ is allowed to go through
than Linn and Bloomfield will eventually need to jointly handle the costs of
hiring someone to deal with the land use and zoning matters of both towns. As both the plan for the two towns to have a
board meeting together next month and the plan to abolish Walworth County
zoning authority over them are both tentative plans, the matter is still being
looked at; also, the ramifications of this proposal have not been fully
discussed and will need to be closely examined before they take any action.
