Lake Geneva WI may Enjoy the Benefits of having a Harbormaster in place next year

the City Committee is looking into making the lakefronts safer for residents and guests

Lake Geneva WI may have a harbormaster position available
for 2008. Last month the city’s Budget
Committee approved a partial way to fund this position, by increasing buoy and
slip leases
$100 and also increasing lagoon lease rates. However, they must still add this position to
the 2008 budget and decide whether it will be a full or part time position.

If this position is agreed to be a necessity, than the
harbormaster will be in charge of all activities on the lakefront for the city;
this includes handling issues with the vendors in the Riviera, and regulating
the use of buoys and slips.

Lake Geneva Regional News online reported that one of the regular
complaints to the city committee is that there is not enough regulation of the
lakefront. The City Hall Employees must
spend a lot of time keeping an eye on lakefront activities and so it only makes
sense to employ a specific person to these duties. It is hoped that, should this position be in
next year’s budget, the harbormaster will solve these problems and keep a
stricter watch on enforcing violations.
