Delevan Lake WI Upkeep a Necessity

Dr. Robertson stresses the need to monitor urban development for the Future of the Lake

According to Dr. Dale Robertson with the United States
Geological Survey, Delevan Lake could deteriorate if it isn’t taken care
of. In years past, Delevan Lake was
infested with phosphorus induced algae; though the problem was taken care of in
1993, phosphorus loading will cause a problem in the near future. This phosphorus is found in natural and
man-made fertilizers that residents near Delevan Lake WI use to keep their
crops healthy and grass green. Unfortunately the run-off from these fertilizers causes weed and algae
growth to occur in the Lake.

Some possible ways to prevent the deterioration of the Lake,
as suggested by Dr. Robertson, include deepening retention ponds at the inlet
to trap more nutrients and sediment, keeping the rough fish population at bay
(they tend to stir up the weeds and take over the Lake), and monitor urban
development to prevent run-off. The town
is taking action to do just that in hopes of keeping Delevan Lake at its height
of good fishing and clear sailing.
