Walworth County’s Telephone Notification System Fast and Effective

Walworth County Emergency Management has been effectively implementing
the CodeRED system this year to notify people of emergency situations as they
happen. The high-speed telephone
notification system known as CodeRED allows the county to run effectively even
in cases of emergency. In January, when
a car accident involving a utility pole caused those in Delavan Township to be
without heat for more than six hours, the CodeRED system let residents know
about the power outage and where shelter was available for them until repairs
could be made.
The phone system allows the county to send message to homes,
businesses and mobile phones at a rate of up to 60,000 calls an hour to any
specific geographic area; the CodeRED system will also let officials know who
did or did not receive the messages sent (e.g. they only left an answering
machine message or someone actually picked up). It can also be used for missing persons and other emergency situations
that affect the county or a certain area within the county.
