Williams Bay Wisconsin Approves Phosphorus Ban
Williams Bay Wisconsin’s Village Board recently approved a phosphorus ban in the village effective October 1st of this year. The ban includes all phosphorus fertilizers for lawns and gardens to help reduce the negative effects to the local Lakes which include excessive plant growth in the Lake, throwing off the natural ecosystem. The Geneva Lake Environmental Agency is hoping to see Linn Township and Fontana Wisconsin also adopt this ordinance as well to ensure that the amount of runoff from phosphorus into the lakes is limited.
Williams Bay’s ordinance will allow a few exceptions to the ban including those that have newly established lawns, agricultural use, and areas were the soil has show phosphorus levels to be below harmful effects as determined by the University of Wisconsin’s Extension Service.
