Two Local Lake Geneva Businesses Awarded Liquor License

May 6th, 2008 admin Posted in Uncategorized No Comments »

With Class B liquor licenses, two of Lake Geneva's local restaurants will be increasing their business

The two available liquor licenses for Lake Geneva Wisconsin
were recently awarded to local businesses this past week. The City Council met to make the decision and reviewed the requests carefully, finally deciding to offer the Class B liquor licenses to the Golden Oaks Mansion and the Medusa Grill and Bistro restaurant.

These two licenses became available again due to the Hillmoor’s license being revoked and Applebee’s license unable to be used due to their current inability to come to agreement on property related issues. These available liquor licenses were highly coveted by Lake Geneva’s local food service businesses and five applied for them, with only two coming out victorious.

One of the license winners, the Golden Oaks Mansion is a bed and breakfast and the owner Waspi Bell has been yearning for the opportunity to offer a restaurant with refined tastes; the other restaurant winner, Greg Anagnos, hopes to serve cocktails in a lounge area of his restaurant, which will allow the grill to be open longer and increase business for the winter.

The number of Class B liquor licenses offered for each municipality is based on population, but Lake Geneva Wisconsin is looking to add more when the population estimates are altered.

Geneva WI Educates Property Owners and Visitors on How to Go Green

April 29th, 2008 admin Posted in Uncategorized No Comments »

Geneva WI plans on having an Earth Day celebration every year to promote awareness on 'green' living

With the need to “go green” increasing in all parts of the
country, Geneva Wisconsin is no exception. In celebration of Earth Day on April 26th the Town Park
Commission provided a fun way for adults and children to learn about how they
can help care for the environment. Among
the activities were educational booths, children’s activities, a country
market, a variety show, and a lake cleanup. The Geneva Lake Conservancy also spoke about how property owners can
receive tax breaks by “going green” in a number of ways.

Geneva Wisconsin is hoping to celebrate Earth Day in the
same manner each year in order the increase awareness of the need to care for
the environment which includes the beautiful Lakes that make this area of
Wisconsin so attractive.

Geneva Lake Conservancy Post New Watershed Signs

April 24th, 2008 admin Posted in Uncategorized 1 Comment »

The Conservancy hopes to raise awareness of protecting Geneva Lake's Watershed with these new signs

The Geneva Lake Conservancy is taking measures for residents
and visitors alike to take notice of the location of the watershed. Last Friday, Geneva Lake Conservancy
officials joined with Lake Geneva and Linn township to reveal the first
watershed signs installed in these communities. The signs are two-sided and they will be in 40 locations around the
lake, focusing on roadways and entrances. Although the precise location of the watershed is difficult to
determine, these signs will give a good idea where concern should be placed.

The watershed signs are the second phase of the
Conservancy’s watershed education program designed to make everyone who lives
or visits aware of the importance of protecting the beautiful Geneva Lake. Making children and adults aware that
anything put into the ground around the watershed designated by the new signs
will affect the quality of the lake and thus their well-being is the
Conservancy’s main priority.  This should
be an issue of concern for everyone as the quality of the lake will ultimately affect
the environment, health, the economics of the local businesses, and property
values.

Mirbeau-Hummel Have Hopes to Continue

April 15th, 2008 admin Posted in Uncategorized No Comments »

Mirbeau-Hummel filed a notice of injury with the city in hopes of opening a dialogue that will further their 882-unit development plans

Although city voters recently denied a nonbinding referendum
concerning the Mirbeau-Hummel development plan of 882-units, it isn’t over. Mirbeau filed a notice of injury with the
city in hopes of talking out the present concerns the City Council may have and
find a solution. If the City Council
will review this notice and resolve the current problems than Mirbeau-Hummel
may not go to the next level of filing a claim of damages. Mirbeau-Hummel representative John Terrell
indicated to Lake Geneva Regional news that the whole issue is about zoning and
they have every intention of moving forward with their commercial and
residential development plans once these issues are resolved satisfactorily.

Geneva Lake Environmental Agency to Keep Public Posted on Water Safety Throughout the Summer

April 10th, 2008 admin Posted in Uncategorized No Comments »

It isn't new for the Environmental Agency to regular test lake water, but they will now be required to post a sign publically on a weekly basis indicating current safety levels

Although the Geneva Lake Environmental Agency has been
testing Lake water for safety for years, they will begin placing signs at the
entrance to the municipal beaches this summer, as reviewed by the Fontana
Village Board at last Monday’s meeting. The
signs will post the current level of bacteria in the lake and be color coded; a
green sign would indicate the water is safe, a yellow one denotes a higher than
normal level of bacteria, and a red sign would warn visitors that the beach is
closed due to the bacteria level being very high. This system has arisen due to a new state law
that requires that bacteria levels in Lake water should be publically posted.

To keep the data current on a weekly basis throughout the
summer, the Lake water will be tested early on Mondays, starting the week
before Memorial Day and ending the week after Labor Day; if the results seem
higher than normal they will continue to test water every 24 hours until
normalcy exists again so as not to keep the beaches closed longer than
necessary.

Mirbeau-Hummel Referendum Rejected by Voters

April 8th, 2008 admin Posted in Uncategorized 2 Comments »

The controversial Mirbeau-Hummel plan does not meet well with the community

In December the City Council voted unanimously for putting a
referendum question concerning Mirbeau-Hummel on the April 1st
ballot. The April Spring Election for
Lake Geneva revealed a strong rejection of the Mirbeau-Hummel development referendum
with voting numbers of 1,377-414; this was not surprising to many as the development
plans have been the source of debate for officials and community members for
the past year. The Lake Geneva Plan
Commission voted in favor of the rezone and general development plan for the
property in question, but they also wanted more input from residents on the
issue. The split in opinions is mainly
due to concerns about the natural environment of the area, with advocates
insisting that it can only be beneficial economically and it is already zoned
for more than the proposed residential units.
