Memorial Day Parade …

Consider gathering with family and friends to attend Lake Geneva’s annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 27th.  The parade will begin at approximately 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Broad and Wisconsin and run down Broad Street to the Riviera.

Following the parade, please plan to head to the Riviera for a short program that will include musical selections from the Lake Geneva Middle School and High School bands, along with the introduction of several distinguished guests.

Don’t miss seeing the members of the Lake Geneva Fire Department in their dress blues, standing at attention in front of a Lake Geneva Fire Department ladder truck as it raises a large American flag extended from the end of the ladder.  It provides a solemn moment for reflection and is an inspirational way to start Memorial Day.

Annual Plant and Garden Art Show… 

Everyone knows that Memorial weekend is traditionally the weekend to plant your gardens and flower beds.  Some years we are lucky enough to enjoy unseasonably warm weather, while other years we wait anxiously and ask “will Spring ever arrive”?  Unfortunately, this year has everyone still asking if Spring is ever going to come.

While the upcoming weekend forecast is not looking particularly favorable, we think you are probably safe in beginning to get some flowers in the ground and the Garden Fair in Fontana is a great place to start your shopping.

The Fontana Garden Club and the Geneva Lake Conservancy will be hosting their annual flower, plant and garden art sale this Saturday, May 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 26th from 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the corner of Porter Avenue and Mill Street.  Garden Club members will be on hand to offer helpful gardening tips, along with a large selection of perennials, colorful annuals and garden art.  Perennials are provided by local gardens, while annuals come from Jurg’s and Pesche’s.  The Garden Fair will take place rain or shine.

The Fontana Garden Club is a non-profit group that supports community projects, and uses the proceeds from this sale to award scholarships to local students majoring in environmental programs.

Chocolate Fest…

Nestles makes the very best… The 27th Anniversary of Chocolate Fest begins this Friday, May 24th and runs through Monday, May 27th, so why not head to Burlington this weekend to celebrate all things chocolate.

This 4 day festival offers something for everyone with non-stop food, music, rides and family fun.  Bring the kids and enjoy the carnival and coloring contest, as well as the parade on Monday at 9:00 a.m.  There will be ongoing demonstrations and contests throughout the 4 day event.   Executive, Master and Pastry Chefs from around the area will be on hand to offer cooking demonstrations and share some of their signature chocolate recipes.

When is enough chocolate enough?  Hello…. NEVER!   Can anyone ever really get enough chocolate?  If your answer is no, then why not consider participating in the chocolate eating contest?  Are you known for your competitive nature?  How about signing up for the Project Yum-Way, the Family Food Feud or the Choco Minute-to-Win-It contest?  This festival is a great event for the whole family, so set aside some time this weekend and head to Burlington!

While you are in town, make sure to check out the Burlington Jaycees Arts & Crafts Fair at Echo Park.  The fair runs Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

All money raised during this event is donated back to local and national charities and civic groups.

Lake Geneva Cannery… 

If you haven’t checked out the newest shop in downtown Lake Geneva, you need to put a stop at the Lake Geneva Cannery on your list of things to do.

Locally owned and operated, they’ve been open for several weeks now, and are rapidly becoming a favorite with locals and tourists alike.  Their store is filled with jams, condiments, snacks, coffee and hot sauces galore.  Large selections from the inventory are available for tasting anytime the store is open.  Just a word of caution:  If the sign say’s it’s HOT – they aren’t kidding!

So, head into downtown Lake Geneva and meet our newest neighbors.  We guarantee you’ll have a few favorites before you leave.  Personally, I recommend the Jalapeno Honey BBQ sauce.

Badger High School Greenhouse Sale…

The 21st Annual Badger High School FFA Greenhouse Sale opened for business last Friday, May 3rd.   But lucky for you there’s no need to panic because they still have an amazing variety of perennials, vegetables, herbs, annual bedding plants, trees and shrubs.  The Future Farmers of America from Lake Geneva’s Badger High School have been working hard to have everything ready for the upcoming planting season.

Looking for a bright and colorful way to brighten up your deck or patio?  Stop by and pick up a beautiful hanging basket which will provide you and your family with something you can enjoy all summer long.  All proceeds from the sale of the plants will go toward leadership activities for the Badger FFA.

The Sale will continue on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. thru May 24th and is open regular school days through the 24th from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

These students are hardworking and passionate about the FFA.  They have spent countless hours cultivating and caring for these plants.  Please consider shopping at Badger when you start to think about planting your gardens this year.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day…

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has organized another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day and it is scheduled for this Saturday, April 27th.

This is a perfect opportunity to check your medicine cabinets and linen closets for outdated and unwanted prescription drugs.   You might be surprised at how many items you have in your house that have outlived their shelf life.

Collections are being accepted from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at locations all around Walworth County.  Check out Drop Off Sites for a location nearest you.  Flushing your unused pills down the toilet or putting them in the trash is an unsafe way to dispose of medication.  Please take advantage of this opportunity to safely remove unwanted prescription drugs from your home.

Women’s Weekend…

Lake Geneva is a great place to celebrate relationships, and the upcoming Women’s Weekend is the perfect venue to do just that.  The event is scheduled for this Friday, April 26th through Sunday, April 28th and the weekend is packed with fun-filled activities that showcase our beautiful community.  This year’s event is titled “Let the Good Times Roll” and has a New Orleans feel.  Enjoy boat cruises, dining, spa treatments, shopping and demonstrations.  There is truly something for everyone!

Pre-registration is required for all Women’s Weekend sponsored activities.  Registration starts at Noon on Friday, with a spa night beginning at 6:00 p.m. and a Kick-Off party starting at 8:00 p.m.

Saturday morning starts with a number of demonstrations including jewelry making at Beadology, flower arranging by Lily Pots and knitting and crocheting classes at Knits ‘N Kits. The afternoon events include wine tasting at Studio Winery, a tour of the Black Point Mansion and high tea at the Geneva Inn.  Other activities throughout the day will include various workshops and a sunset cocktail cruise.  The day will conclude with a Pub Crawl through downtown Lake Geneva beginning at 8:00 p.m.

Sunday’s events include a “Rise and Shine” yoga class at 9:00 a.m. and a Taste of Tuscan Brunch that is being served from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The $55.00 registration fee will provide you with a Women’s Weekend tote bag (filled with goodies from area merchants), a Lake Geneva shore path walking guide, a coupon book good for shopping and dining, discounts on workshops and access to the Kick-Off Party at the beautiful Riviera Ballroom on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Crandall’s Chicken Dinner…

If you’ve been to Crandall’s in Hebron, you don’t need to hear any more than all-you-can-eat and “you’re in”, if you haven’t been to Crandall’s, all you have to do is ask around and you’ll find out what you’re missing and therefore, you’ll be saying “I’m in”.

Join the Lake Geneva Lions Club as they host their annual All-You-Can-Eat Chicken Dinner this Sunday, April 28th.   Make plans to treat yourself to a great chicken dinner complete with mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw and biscuits.

Your wait staff for this event is none other than Lake Geneva’s very own Lions Club members and they will be serving meals from 1:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Carry-outs will be available from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  If you would like a carry-out order, they request that you call in your order to (815) 648-2609.  Tickets will be available at the door, or you can purchase them in advance from any Lake Geneva Lions Club member.  Prices are $13.00 for adults and $7.00 for children ages 6 and under.

Make sure you get your raffle tickets while you are there.  Cash prizes of $50, $100, $200 and $300 will be awarded and you do not need to be present to win.
