Fontana’s Plan Commission questions Bidwill’s Plans for an Eight-Unit Condo on Fontana Boulevard
With businesses going slow, Bidwill sees the Boulevard as a great place for some condos, but the Plan Commission sees differently
Developer Joseph Bidwill’s plan for an area on Fontana Boulevard
has met with some opposition from the Plan Commission. Bidwill wants to get rid Novak’s Deli building
so he can make room for an eight-unit condominium. There are several businesses along parts of
Fontana Boulevard that are struggling and/or for sale; hence, Bidwill sees it
as a ‘losing battle’ for business to be in this low traffic area, as reported
by the Lake Geneva news.
Despite these current facts, Fontana’s Plan Commission may
be unwilling to turn this slow area residential just yet; with firm beliefs
that business will pick up in the future (especially with various efforts to
create more traffic in the area, including a pedestrian and biking friendly
path) the Plan Commission does not feel they should seal their fate by cutting
off other commercial possibilities in the area with the construction of condos.
Thus, the Plan commission has not voted on the issue yet,
but referred Bidwill to the Community Development Authority to present to them
for their next meeting.
