I hear a lot of interesting stories from many people being in the real estate business in Lake Geneva, but I have to share a story I heard from someone this week. 

This gentleman said he was in his 60′s and been coming to Lake Geneva since he was a small boy.  He went on to tell me that when he was a kid his uncle had a large very fast boat on Lake Geneva and one day after his uncle had consumed a few “pops” at one of the local watering holes, he bet another man that his boat could beat the other mans boat in a race from Lake Geneva to Fontana.  But part of the bet was that both boats were to have a water skier behind them and if the skier fell into the water, the driver would lose the bet.  And here’s the best part, he claimed the bet was for $10,000.  So this young man of about 10 years of age was sternly told by his uncle to hold on tight and make sure he did not fall down.  They started out from the Rivera boat dock and he proceeded to stay on his skis all the way to Fontana, which is about 9 miles, and his uncle won the bet. 

I’m not sure if it’s true but it ranks right up there with some of the most interesting Lake Geneva stories I’ve ever heard.

A recent proposal in the Town of Walworth Wisconsin has a
development plan of 210 units on 140 acres of land. Developer Robert Clemen’s proposal will be
discussed tonight at a Town Board Meeting. The development, Covered Bridges, is said to bring 74 single family
homes and 68 duplexes, with costs between $350,000-500,000 and $230,000-330,000,
respectively. Approximately 61 acres
will be open space in the subdivision, featuring a two mile hiking trail, and will
be maintained by the homeowners association.

Despite Clemen’s proposed economic and social improvements
(i.e. more enrollment in struggling area schools and an increase in annual
revenue), many area residents are not convinced of the benefits. A petition has been circulated and signed to
stop the project, claiming that it will adversely affect the town by increasing
traffic, losing agricultural lands, and affecting Delevan Lake and the water
table; they also predict the need for a separate police force solely for the
development. 

If the proposal is approved at the Town Board meeting
tonight, it will also have to be approved by the county and town of Walworth. The board meeting will be held at Walworth
Elementary due to the anticipated crowd at 6:30pm.

The Lake Geneva WI Annual 4^th of July Parade will proudly feature

The Elkhorn Area High School
is proud to send four of their students to a national history competition June
10-13 this year. Wisconsin history students Emily
Welch, Lea Schoenberg, Joelle Jankowski, and Laruen Rinaldi will attend and
present at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD at the national
competition. 

These students worked
together for the National History Day state finals to present a winning reenactment
of the second Rowe vs. Wade Supreme Court Hearing.  All students are excited to compete
nationally and do some sight-seeing in the Washington D.C. area.

When a deadly fish virus was discovered in the Lake
Winnebago water system, officials of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
(DNR) have been on the case. The DNR are
focusing their investigation on Madison and Lake Geneva as well as Lake Michigan
and the Mississippi River to discover whether the virus is found here as well.
DNR officials reported that the virus is known as viral hemorrhagic septicemia
(VHS) and travels via water rather than saliva or blood, making it more
dangerous. VHS is said to cause anemia
and hemorrhaging in fish. 

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported
that last Thursday the Natural Resources board gave the ‘okay’ to emergency
restrictions for boaters and anglers in the Lake Winnebago system. Though the virus has not been found in other
Lakes, the same emergency restrictions will be applied immediately to any and
all other bodies of water if the virus shows up there as well.
